SEX FACTS: ]FEMALE SEXUAL AROUSAL / INTEREST
Sexual arousal or interest refers to the desire or motivation to engage in sexual activity. Also known as “sexual appetite” and “sex drive”, whether alone or partnered. Sexual arousal is the second phase of the sexual response cycle and defined by both mental and physical readiness for sexual activity. Vaginal swelling and lubrication are the physiological changes that occur in the female body prior to sexual interaction. FSIAD (Female Sexual Interest/Arousal Disorder) is defined in the DSM-5 as lack of, or significantly reduced, sexual interest and arousal. One of the most frequently cited study found low sexual interest in 22% of women in the general U.S. population (Laumann, Paik, Rosen, & Page, 1999). In a 2005 survey of women from 29 countries, rates of self-reported low sexual interest ranged from 26% to 43% (Laumann et al., 2005).
Low sexual desire is a common problem in women but more so in middle-aged women. HSDD (Hypoactive sexual desire disorder), peaked in middle-aged women. Between 18 and 44 years of age the prevalence of HSDD was 8.9%, while it was 12.3% between 45–64 years and 7.4% in women 65 years old or older. FOD (Female Orgasmic Disorder) is another common problem affecting sexual function in a substantial proportion of women. FOD is a persistent or recurrent delay in, or absence of, orgasm following a ‘normal’ sexual excitement phase. Studies suggest that it is prevalent in 11% to 41% of women worldwide and can have a tremendous impact on the individual’s relational satisfaction, quality of life, and general well-being.
WHAT IS THE O-SHOT® OR ORGASM SHOT®?
The O-Shot®, or Orgasm Shot® is an innovative and trademarked non-surgical procedure to enhance a women’s pleasure and sexual response. The O-Shot® helps women climax quicker and more intensely during sexual intercourse. The procedure works to rejuvenate the vaginal tissues with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). PRP injection is based on a concentration of a person’s own platelets from blood cells to accelerate healing in a specific area. For the O-shot®, the PRP is painlessly injected into the clitoral and vaginal areas.
HOW DOES THE O-SHOT IMPROVE SEXUAL AROUSAL / INTEREST?
When a women’s own PRP is injected into her clitoral and vaginal areas, growth factors are released that activate her body’s stem cells, improving sensitivity, blood flow, and the resiliency of the surrounding tissue to provide her with more intense sexual experiences.
WHO INVENTED THE O-SHOT®?
Dr. Charles Runels invented the O-Shot® originally to help his own girlfriend’s sex life. The Orgasm Shot® has since helped thousands of women all over the world to rediscover their orgasm and so much more! Dr. Runels was the first person in the world to use PRP blood-derived growth factors to rejuvenate the vagina to improve sex and to stop uninary incontinence. “I don’t expect to ever invent anything that I will consider more important than the O-Shot® procedure. Yesterday, I received an email from a woman who wants to have coffee with me and personally thank me. After the O-Shot® procedure, at sixty-five years young, she’s enjoying orgasms for the first time in her life. Think about it… a woman, aged sixty-five, whom I’ve never met, now enjoys a better connection and more pleasure with her husband, and a changed life because of a ten-minute, pain-free procedure that is nearly risk free.” says Dr. Runels. Since then, physicians around the world have adopted the O-Shot® procedure in their clinics.
HOW IS THE O-SHOT® PERFORMED?
During the O-Shot® treatment, a vial of the patients own blood is drawn. The blood is then placed in a centrifuation machine to produce the Platelet-Rich Plasma. The PRP process takes about 10 minutes and is done in the room with the patient. Once the PRP is collected, the patient is numbed with a topical and local anesthetic to ensure no discomfort to the clitoral and vaginal areas. Dr. Bimesl will carefully perform a series of small injections of PRP using a very fine needle. The growth factors are injected in the clitoris and into the upper vagina, the area most important for the sexual response, the O-Spot®. These areas have been numbed with the anesthetic cream, therefore the woman feels little or no pain. This entire O-Spot® procedure can be performed in the comfort of our Toronto and Richmond Hill offices in less than an hour, with total privacy and discretion.
Since the start of the PRP procedure, there has never been even one serious reaction to PRP prepared by an FDA approved kit in any part of the body (the FDA has not evaluated the use of this kit for preparing PRP for use in the vagina but this procedure only uses the woman’s own blood to prepare the injection).
PRP has been used effectively for a variety of procedures for more than 20 years. Over 500,000 procedures involving the injection of PRP into various parts of the body have been performed with no significant side effects or complications reported.
